by the Cricklade Town Festival Committee

In summary, the 2005 festival was another great success! A big thanks to everyone who came along and all the people who took part. Through everyone’s efforts we are proud to announce that the festival has raised £1036 for our nominated local charity, The Jubilee Gardens Project, based in Purton Stoke.

Madonna in Cricklade!
Saturday the 25th June 2005 of the Cricklade Festival saw another exciting party evening this time with Madonna in the Town Hall, which had been tastefully decorated to compliment the
occasion. Many Cricklade residents and friends attend the 'Vogue' evening which was sponsored by Russell Osman. This included a live band and dancers with a great performance of Madonna hits by one of the best tribute bands around. A licensed bar helped the evening go with a swing and a giant raffle with many prizes to be won was thoroughly successful. The atmosphere of the evening was exhilarating with everyone joining in the dancing and singing, ending with a lively disco and people not wanting to go home. All in all this was a very successful and enjoyable event leaving people wanting more.

Ladies First!
Cricklade's first Ladies Pamper and Indulgence Evening proved to be a huge success. Well over 60 people came along to the hall at St Sampsons Junior School to indulge in a little pampering and retail therapy. It was a deliciously warm evening - just the right accompaniment for all the gorgeous things on offer!

We were treated to a broad selection of shopping opportunities from stallholders selling goodies such as designer flower arrangements, candles, toiletries, jewellery, antiques, clothing and trinkets. We also had great representation from local therapists for mind, body and spirit. These included Pilates, Yoga, Reiki, Chiropody, Reflexology, Coaching, Hypnotherapy, nutritional and wellbeing advice, hairstyling and a fitness expertise. The whole event was sponsored by local company Purple Lighthouse, who provide support for people aiming to make positive changes in both their personal and professional lives.   The festival committee provided wine and nibbles and ran a successful raffle of gifts donated by the stallholders and therapists, which raised over £60 for our charity The Jubilee Gardens Project.

Blakehill Nature Walk
Over 150 people, ranging in age from 3 to 83 (a bit of poetic license here!) enjoyed visiting the Blakehill Farm nature reserve which opened in the summer of 2005. For many older residents of Cricklade Blakehill Farm is still remembered as a glider base used in World War II and later as a listening station for GCHQ. The land has not been cultivated for a very long time and provides a vast expanse of land teeming with plant, animal and insect life. Guides from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust provided a fascinating commentary about the nature reserve and pointed out several very rare plant specimens. The views over the surrounding area were magnificent and we are sure Cricklade residents, and those from further afield, will enjoy the glimpse into Wiltshire rural life which Blakehill Farm provides for many years to come.

Festival Family Fun Day
What a day we had!  There was something for everyone..  We had classic motorcycles, circus displays, fairground attractions, a superb pantomime, live music, food and drink - and some great weather!  We wanted this to be a family event and we were thrilled to see so many who turned out for what turned out to be one of the highlights of the festival fortnight.  Many thanks to everyone who came!  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
